3 Top Tips on working with friends

Friends are amazing, you can laugh, joke around and they understand you on a whole different level that not many others can. However, what do you do when it’s time to get down to business?  They say Business and pleasure don’t mix and this is for a variety of reasons although this doesn’t mean it’s impossible to work with your friends to accomplishes a great business goal. Here are three top on how you can successfully work with your mates in any business environment.

  1. Establish ‘house rules’ – if you have a 9- 5 job or any job for that matter you are aware of the rules within your work community. Arriving on time, signing a register, wearing clean uniform ect . Similar to when working with your friends be sure to set a list of “rules” that will enable you both to work effectively. With this in place, you both know what standards to expect from one another while at late.
  2. Always remain Professional –  as you would in any workplace. When you don’t agree with something your friend may have said or done. Continue to work in a manner that won’t affect the task at hand. Try and handle all your disagreement in a somewhat professional manner not allowing your friendship to overtake your business plan.
  3. Stick to the task at Hand – It’s so easy to get carried away and distracted when you’re having fun working with your mate but you have to remember the task you are trying to establish. If you think you may find yourselves going off track, have something to refer to at the end of every day or week possibly a chart or timetable. This will allow you to Monitor your daily or weekly accomplishments.

With these three points in play, there’s no reason why you can’t work with your friends and make it a success.

Quote of the Month “Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.”-Mary Kay Ash
