How to stay productive when you have sh*t loads to do

Staying productive when you’ve got shit loads to do has got to be the most challenging aspects of running a creative business, hands down. It can be so overwhelming and we can end up running our minds into the ground because we have so many things to get through in a day, not to mention all the distractions that get in our ways such as social media and our friends texting us like ‘ OMG have you heard, Beyoncés having twins’ not ideal.

Wouldn’t you just love to have your whole life in check and get through tasks without it feeling tedious? Well, thankfully we have some way to get your productivity levels on a high.

 Wake up early

In order to maximise your day, it’s a great idea to wake up early, it will give you a lot more productive time to get things done. I know staying in bed can feel so good and when it’s cold a bitter outside you just want to have a lie in and sleep for a week. But it’s like they say, you snooze, you loose and you can’t afford to be losing out here, you’ve got money to go get.

Sleeping beauty if it’s really that hard, try waking up a couple of hours earlier each day than usual, It takes us 21 days to form a new habit so if you keep to it you’ll be springing out of bed like it’s nothing.

 To do lists A to-do is list is a fundamental tool for time management and will help you to you to break down all the activities you need to get through within a certain period of time.

It’s important to be realistic with your to-do lists and decide what is realistically achievable in a day. The more manageable the list is, then more you’ll feel compelled to get the stuff done.

Once you have your to-do list in check it’s time to determine what on your list needs to be done first. What has a deadline? Look at your to-do list and estimate the time each task needs to be complete but don’t be over optimistic. The more important the task is at hand the more appropriately engaged you to need to be with it and that should be at the top of your to-do list.

Organise your workspace

If your job requires you to work from home/office you need to have a clean desk, so that means De-clutter, shred, empty and get rid of everything that you don’t need or want and make sure everything you need is in reach. By organising your desk space you’ll be amazed at how much you’ll accomplish in a day. A clean and clear workspace will have you thinking clearly and you’ll be able to collect your thoughts better. Swimming through a messy pile of pens and papers can really drain your mind to the point where you feel like putting things off.

 Get rid of distractions

 Let’s be honest now, how many times have you checked Facebook today? Instagram? Everyone has their own set of distractions and certain tasks that knock them off track. Carve out some mental space by shutting off all your communication devices, such as your phone and the Internet and Blocking out all external distractions altogether. I know this can be extremely difficult but this is your lively hood, so you’ve got to get it together girl, switch that phone off and lock in in the drawer.
